Community Spotlight: Emma Drozda

Emma Drozda remembers when her brother came home from a trip to Denver. He had been to visit the Project Worthmore ESL class. She was immediately inspired when she heard about the refugees from Burma who had made the long journey to resettle in America. “How can I help?” Emma thought.

The new school year was fast approaching and that’s when Emma had an idea. She has a huge heart for kids, so she decided to do a drive to collectschool supplies. She shared her vision with her school, neighbors, and community. She raised a total of $800, hundreds of backpacks, and various school supplies. On a Friday afternoon, we invited families to our office to choose supplies for their children. Emma said, “There was excitement in the air and smiles all around when the kids saw the backpacks, markers, pencils, notebooks, scissors, rulers, crayons, glue sticks, pens and paper. This was a way for all of us to make a difference in so many kids lives. People say, “Wow you gave so much to those kids!” but I really feel like they gave more back to me! I will never forget this experience, their appreciation, the excitement, and the smiles!!”
Emma thank you so much for sharing your heart for refugees with your community. We really appreciate you and what you did to help make this school year a successful one for so many of our students!
