Thank You For An Amazing New Year

Thank you for your warm welcome into 2015. Your year-end support enabled us to welcome new Rohingya families from Burma. The family above is just one example of how your gifts and volunteer support are welcoming new refugee families to our community.

This year, we are working towards providing a warm and hopeful welcome to new families. We often see that single mothers have a really difficult time adjusting to their new life in America. Siri, one of our home visitors, recently met a Rohingya woman who fell into this category. She had just arrived in Denver on December 18th. She has four children, no English skills, and has expressed that she feels overwhelmed and depressed when she thinks about living here for the rest of her life. Since meeting her, we have been able to provide her with transportation for an emergency visit to the doctor.

On a recent visit, Siri told her,
“Hey, now you have friends in America. Everything will be okay.”

Because of generous donations over the holidays, we were able to give her rice and produce, as well as dishes and warm winter clothes. We have also paired her with a mentor volunteer that will be visiting her family on a weekly basis and helping her with English conversation, assisting her in using public transportation, and being available for whatever hardships she may encounter.
